The film was initially released on 9th April 2021 on Amazon Prime, during the lockdown this year. However, as the covid situation settled (read debatable), and the country began its multiphase unlocking, the movie has been re-released in cinemas, and interestingly removed from Amazon Prime. Exactly what were the distributors/producers thinking, hell if I know! I managed to catch the film probably a day before it was removed and thought I’d share a quick review, in case any of you were planning to see the film in theaters.
If you enjoy intros like those in John Wick movies, you may enjoy this one (for a few moments). The action scene in the opening act is incredible, but everything after that is utterly meh! There is no glitz, no cartoonish moments, no horseback riding, and no absurdity in action sequences. There’s slightly more realism in this movie, and the fact that the hero, Bob Odenkirk plays a regular guy, adds a refreshing vulnerability to the film.
The movie begins off decently, though a little slow for my taste, and picks up speed after about 20 minutes. A rather forced and clumsily shot scene, where our hero helps a woman being harassed by a group of men on a bus, determines the tone for the rest of the movie. You’d expect the plot of a common man becoming the target of a vengeful drug lord to be an interesting watch; but unfortunately, the cinematography doesn’t improve much. The screenplay is amateur, and there is no consistency among the scenes. Don’t carry your brains (just your mask and sanitizer). With a run time of 1 hour 32 minutes and a surprising IMDB rating of 7.4, I would recommend you not waste time in the theaters and either wait till the movie is available on Amazon Prime again or get it here.
