Taboos: Break The Stigma

“Log kya kahenge?!” (what will people say?!) are the words that have been the reason behind so many failed dreams and broken hearts in India for time immemorial. And all these restrictive behaviors revolve around taboo subjects that don’t belong in the 21st century anymore. Social taboos and their far-reaching consequences are not new to India, where history is ripe with practices of Sati, prohibition of widow remarriage, child marriage, and persecution of homosexual individuals. And the country has also been witness to common people being flag bearers of change and fighting against these discriminating and repressive practices.

By substituting a different material instead of soil to support the roots of the plant, crops are grown directly in nutrient-rich water. With its ability to produce higher yields than traditional, soil-based agriculture, hydroponic farming gained immense popularity.

Nobody: A Movie Review

The film was initially released on 9th April 2021 on Amazon Prime, during the lockdown this year. However, as the covid situation settled (read debatable), and the country began its multiphase unlocking, the movie has been re-released in cinemas, and interestingly removed from Amazon Prime. Exactly what were the distributors/producers thinking, hell if I know! I managed to catch the film probably a day before it was removed and thought I’d share a quick review, in case any of you were planning to see the film in theaters.

How To Make Your Desk A Better Place To Work From | WFH Edition

No one could have predicted that a mere virus would bring the whole world to its knees! Millions of people have been affected personally and professionally in the last two years, and the end is still not in sight. The worldwide pandemic has brought about many changes in our day-to-day lives. Whether it be the compulsion to wear masks whenever we set foot outside our door or even the limitations on getting out of our homes. Long-lasting lockdowns and restrictions on large gatherings in any public place have become the norm. And this includes all workplaces too. Other than essential services, nearly all workplaces have had to get their employees to work from home. What started as a precautionary measure expected to last a short while has lasted for more than one and a half years now. Initially, people started working from makeshift spaces in their homes. Whether it be a small table, the dining table, or even small laptop tables sitting on the bed! But as time went on and there is still no end in sight to this situation, the jugaad workspaces were no longer cutting it. While many offices have opened, the new norm is a blended working mode; wherein you can work at the office and from home on a roster basis. This calls for a more permanent setting at home, from where you can work, efficiently and productively. While the office vs home ambiance will always be separate, your workstation can be similar or even more as per your liking if you want; and that’s what this post explains.

In The Earth: A Movie Review

We didn’t get to see many films from the horror or thriller genre during the covid lockdown(s). Mostly because such movies require a lot of technical work to achieve convincing and thrilling imagery shots at specific shooting locations. But this was no hindrance to director Ben Wheatley who announced in September 2020 that he had written and directed ‘In The Earth’ in just 15 days. The movie was first released at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2021. This is a rare film that displays warnings for flashing lights and triggers warnings for epilepsy. And you better take these seriously. Because it’s hard to even look at the screen through slit eyes once those flashes get going!

It’s Mango Season!

Summers in India are incomplete with mangoes. We all have childhood memories of fighting our siblings for the last piece of mango after a meal, or attending numerous mango parties, just hogging one mango after another. Often called the King of Fruits, mangoes are rightly termed so. Loved by men, women, and children across the country; mangoes are enjoyed raw, juiced, pickled, and cooked This heavenly-tasting fruit isn’t without its health benefits.

The Big Bull: A Movie Review

When the trailer dropped for The Big Bull for the first time on YouTube, I asked the same question as everyone else – how is this going to be better than Scam 1992? Though it is unfair, to pit a web series against a movie, the similarities in the storylines, made me prejudiced. Agreed a web series has more time for story and character development while a movie has its limitations, I wasn’t planning to watch this, but choices are restricted these days, so I thought I’d give it a try. I’m not an Abhishek Bachchan fan, but I put my misguided faith in Ajay Devgn. But alas, it was for nothing. Thirty minutes in, and I was ready to give up completely!

Zack Snyder’s Justice League: A Review

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the classic example of what a dedicated and persistent fanbase can do. The Justice League movie released in 2017 as a part of the DC Extended Universe was unanimously a big disappointment so as I sat down to watch this movie with a runtime of 4 hours; I was a little skeptical. Though the film wasn’t that great, the extra-long run-time wasn’t torturous. Initially intended as a 6 part series, this film was meant to be an IMAX release; but thanks to covid, here we are.

Preserving Your Sanctity Amidst The Covid-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 virus has managed to cause enough trauma drama to last a lifetime! It’s not only the disease in itself, but everything about it, that’s scary and stressful. Provided the treatment is done right, the recovery rate is high. But even so, the virus manages to screw up the whole body, even after it has been eradicated from the system.

I admit I was really hoping to see this one in IMAX 3D if not 4DX, but alas, the second wave of Covid ruined my plans. Fortunately, thanks to its timely release online (on Popcorn time) I caught the film last night.

Artificial Sweeteners: Pros & Cons

Artificial sweeteners, also known as sugar substitutes, are additives that are used to sweeten foods and drinks. These are synthetic alternatives, although certain natural herbs can also be used.

They're often referred to as "intense sweeteners" because they have a taste close to table sugar but are thousands of times sweeter.

While some sweeteners contain calories, the amount required to sweeten products is so small that you consume very few calories. In addition, relative to the amount of sugar you would usually use for sweetness, you only need a fraction of the artificial sweetener.

My Favorite Dog Themed Movies

Movies have the ability to make us go through a whole range of emotions. They make us laugh, put us on the edge of our seats, and even make us sob and cry. Furry stars are an unlikely occurrence in movies. However, no one can deny the paw-some presence and adorableness they bring to the silver screen.

Peculiars Of The Deep

It is said that life on Earth started in a deep ocean hydrothermal vent over three billion years ago. Human beings came later, as a result of massive evolutionary changes to these microscopic oceanic beings. However, we have failed to explore underwater life owing to our interests in terrestrial life.

The blue waters of the sea may look enormous and unchanging, but life has always been undergoing rapid changes in its depths. From the obscure alien-like creatures that prowled the ocean millions of years ago to the more familiar whales and octopi, the ocean hosts diverse ecosystems.
